LASSO
Linking Adults and Students in Self-Discovery Opportunities
Children learn best when mulitple senses are engaged - hearing, seeing, and touching. LASSO engages all these senses with concrete experiences, all centered around curriculum objectives specific to their grade level. Our students rotate to different stations and have the opportunity to engage in activities that correlate with their grade-level subject matter. LASSO creates lasting memories for our children, and some students recall it as one of their favorite experiences of the year.
Kindergarten - FALL FESTIVAL - Our youngest learners dress up like scarecrows and celebrate the harvest in this LASSO - a harvest of learning. The children reinforce their math skills, reading, fine motor, and spelling with fun games and activities. The children do not even know they are practicing their skills because they are having so much fun!
First Grade - HEALTH AND HUMAN BODY - Our budding medical professionals will have a blast at this LASSO. The children will check their heart rate, measure how much lung capacity they have, study the bones in their body, learn how to take good care of their teeth, discover where the different "tastes" are located on their tongue, and much more. Who knows what sparks this LASSO will create in our next generation of health care professionals!Second Grade - KATY/TEXAS HISTORY - Come on out Y'ALL! You can live the dream as a real cowboy with the Chuck Wagon visit, kick up your heels in the Square Dancing station, see real animals of our area, learn about some outrageous outlaws, plant some seeds of our state flower - the bluebonnet, and much more! This LASSO is not just for the children - our parents love it too!
Third Grade - METRIC OLYMPICS -Our third grade classes create their own fictional country and flag to participate in these Metric Games. Students practice their measurement skills in stations like the javelin toss and shot put. They measure the area of their foot print and how tall they are. This LASSO is not just a fun contest, these activities help prepare them for their achievement tests.
Fourth Grade - TEXAS INDIANS - In this fun LASSO, our students get to dress up in their favorite Native Texan attire. Some of the exciting activities our fourth graders will enjoy are shooting a bow and arrow, grinding corn, making art with sand, creating pinch pots, learning about and creating a dream catcher, hearing Native Texan story telling, making a head-band and miniature tee-pee, and much more. Join us for this memorable LASSO.
Fifth Grade - COLONIAL AMERICA - Step back into time by dressing up in your Colonial clothing in this LASSO. Students will make corn husk dolls, write letters with ink and quill, play games of the Colonial times, and much more. Enjoy your time and then return to the modern conveniences of our day and age.
